Description:"PRINCE VALIANT' (aka: "VELCRO" OR "THE LOVE SPONGE") MALE -- MOLUCCAN COCKATOO (PLUSH-SALMON COLOR) DOB: 9/12/00 -- He will be 22" - 24" tall when fully grown. When we first met Prince, his breeders were calling HIM "Princess". We insisted on having the bird DNA tested when we decided he was perfect for our home! Right now he is a baby and is saying "Love ya" and "Hello". Our plans are for him are to know many phrases & songs. Like any toddler he is still a clutz and has fallen off his perch several times, breaking all his tail feathers. They are growing back. When reared correctly, these particular birds (Cockatoos) are known as the "Love Sponges" of the bird world. However, it is to be understood, before acquiring such a bird, that they live 70 years and are estimated to have the intelligence of a 3-year-old child. They must be disclipined with "time out" and a "must" is lots of toys to play with and chew up....the more, the better. Plus they must be allowed attention, playtime, and out of their cage for about 12 hours a day. They can eat anything except avacados and chocolate. Prince Valient loves unsalted pretzels and attention! Due to their "powder" which develops on their feathers, they require a shower (with or without you) twice a week. He is a big hit with the kids!! We would love to come to schools and other gathering and teach the public more about him, if invited. Pet therapy would be another possibility. Would YOU like to meet Prince Valient?
